Domestic Hockey Suspended until 30th June

Posted by Bob Skinner on 13 April 2020

England Hockey recently announced that all domestic hockey activity would cease until at least 30th June 2020. To see the full England Hockey announcement, click here.

As a result, the East and Norfolk league management committees have deemed their seasons to be completed and the final league places decided on a percentage basis. Tables and finishing positions for all teams can be accessed through the Meet the Teams pages of the Magpies website.

Overall, it was a good season for the club with six of our teams winning their leagues, namely the Ladies’ 4ths, 5ths and 7ths and Men’s 2nds, 4ths and 6ths.  You see more about these successes by clicking the links to articles in the Diss Express below:

There were also impressive seasons for the Ladies’ 3rds, who had a chance of promotion before their last game was called off, the Ladies’ 2nds and the Girls’ and Boys’ Development teams.

We await a ruling on the outstanding issues concerning some England Hockey National Competitions.

The National Leagues were suspended with one round of matches left to play and several relegation and promotion issues still undecided. Our Ladies’ 1sts were in 4th place in Division One South and had a consistently good season whilst the Men won five of their last nine games to be in 7th place in the East Conference and prevent what at one time looked like inevitable relegation.

There are also outstanding National Cup competition fixtures for our Under 16 Girls who have reached the National Finals (after a nail biting penalty stoke shoot out at the Regional Finals) and our Mixed Team who had reached the last sixteen of the Tier 2 National Cup. A decision from England Hockey on whether these matches can be played at a future date is still awaited.

England Hockey have also decided to cancel the U10 and U12 In2Hockey Championships and the Under 14 Girls Tier 1 Championships. This is a great shame for the Under 10 Girls (Norfolk County Champions), Under 12 Girls and Under 14 Tier 1 Girls teams who had all reached regional finals.
